What is a 'Frozen Shoulder'?

A cold shoulder could be much more than unintentional friendliness..................

In fact it actually impacts your body significantly when it's a 'Frozen Shoulder' AKA Adhesive Capsulitis! You see, your shoulder provides exceptional range of motion, more so than any other joint in the body. When a joint moves so freely as a shoulder, there are more vulnerabilities or threats from every direction that can open it up to injury. That is why, 'with great range of motion comes great responsibility (to keep your shoulders strong and healthy)'... or else you can end up with a 'Frozen Shoulder'.

How does a Frozen Shoulder happen?

When any type of shoulder injury occurs, if left untreated, scar tissue can form over time and lead to an extreme stiffness and pain also known as adhesive capsulitis or a Frozen Shoulder! In fact, sometimes the initial injury is so minor that you don't even realize you did anything to your shoulder, and then weeks to months later, you can't move it! That's why so many people say that their frozen shoulder slowly developed seemingly out of no where.

It must be noted that conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, and even depression can increase your chances for developing a frozen shoulder. It is also very common after undergoing any type of shoulder surgery.

Generally, the initial shoulder injury can be caused by overuse / repetitive motion, sudden trauma, or degeneration. If you want to learn more about shoulder pain not related to a frozen shoulder, check out our blog called “Common Causes of Shoulder Pain”.
